	01. &#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp; Encres/Inks
Série, 2023Mes encres sont des territoires, des cartographies d’un monde intérieur, des traces mnésiques.
 Je travaille en superposition, avec plusieurs couches de papiers de grammages différents. Ce sont des strates à travers lesquelles l’encre pénètre pour ne laisser plus qu’une trace sur la dernière feuille. Chaque feuille est ensuite « décollée » de la première puis laissée comme telle ou retravaillée à l’encre ou avec l’ajout d’autres médiums comme les pastels gras ou secs, le fil cousu sur la feuille.
Les encres montrées ici ont été réalisées lors d’écoutes musicales, à l’invitation de David K. Israel,  compositeur de musique notamment de musique de ballet. &#38;nbsp;
My inks are territories, cartographies of an inner world resonating with the outer world.
 I work in superposition, with several layers of paper of different weights. These are strata through which the ink penetrates to leave only a trace on the last sheet. Each sheet is then "taken off" from the first and then left as is or reworked in ink or with the addition of other mediums such as oil or dry pastels, thread sewn onto the sheet.

Polaroid Project
Polaroid Project est&#38;nbsp; un travail collaboratif avec David K. Israel, 
compositeur de musique, américain, qui m’a proposé de créer à partir de
l’écoute musicale de son dernier album.David K. Israel a&#38;nbsp; également photographié sa partition
« Variations on a
Theme by George Balanchine &#38;amp; Igor Stravinsky » au Polaroid SX70 puis m’a
envoyé les Polaroids afin que je peigne dessus.
Nous envisageons une exposition de ce travail commun , « Polaroid Project » et une performance au cours de laquelle je peindrais et David jouerait sa
musique en direct alors que l’image serait projetée sur un écran.


Polaroid Project is a collaboration with David K. Israel, American
composer,&#38;nbsp; who offered me tocreate while listening the music of his latest albums.David K. Israel also photographed his score "Variations on a Theme by George Balanchine &#38;amp; Igor Stravinsky with an old Polaroid SX70 then sent me the Polaroids to paint on.
We are considering an exhibition of this collaborative work, "Polaroi Project”, in 2024 and a performance during which I would paint and he would
play his music live while the image would be projected onto a screen.

Mes
pratiques artistiques sont variées et s’entrecroisent, allant de la photographie à la
peinture, le collage, la gravure, le modelage et l’encre sur des
supports de création multiples : photographie, toile, tout type de papier
du plus fin au plus épais (murier, soie, Washi, Wenzhou, aquarelle 300 à 600
gr), tissu.

	« L’esthétique elle aussi est une éthique. Ethos en grec ne veut pas dire seulement manière d’être mais séjour. L’art ménage à l’homme un séjour, c’est-à-dire un espace où nous avons lieu, un temps où nous sommes présents — et à partir desquels effectuant notre présence à tout, nous communiquons avec les choses, les êtres et nous-mêmes dans un monde, ce qui s’appelle habiter. »Henry Maldiney, L’esthétique des rythmesJ’ai toujours vu Caroline Gaume photographier. Pour évoquer son travail, il me paraît nécéssaire de commencer par là. Elle a d’abord découvert la photographie avec les films argentiques, mais c’est l’apparition des technologies numériques et des appareils à développement instantanés qui lui ont, à mon sens, permis le mieux d’exprimer son rapport à ce médium.Car il suffit de se promener avec elle pour le comprendre, l’ensemble des choses qui l’entourent devient motif. Et derrière son geste photographique il y a presque l’intention d’une collectionneuse. Elle réunit pour elle les couleurs, les formes, les objets, les lumières, mais aussi et directement lié au médium photographique, les formats : carrés, rectangles, ronds. Ses images sont glanées, comme des coquillages que l’on ne peut s’empêcher de ramasser sur une plage, poussé par un élan sensible et urgent de conservation. Le temps qui passe et qui va peut être bientôt détruire le sujet d’une émotion.Le Polaroid, comme son téléphone portable lui permettent aussi d’intervenir sur ses images. Il y a donc deux temps, celui de la captation et celui d’une altération de l’image. Dans le cas d’une photographie numérique, il peut lui arriver de jouer avec la superpositions de plusieurs visuels. Avec le Polaroïd, c’est la chimie des différentes épreuves qui vont donner une couleur à ses images, quelques fois des tâches apparaissent.Dans ses dernières recherches, Caroline Gaume s’est intéressée à l’encre sur papier. Ce choix est logique tant il lui permet, encore une fois, de se rapprocher d’une certaine forme d’instantanéité. Ici, la distance entre ses émotions et la feuille de papier, sorte de surface sensible, est encore écourtée.La récente rencontre avec David K. Israel lui a permis de créer à partir de ses compositions musicales. Alors, ses gestes quasi-automatiques, font naitre des rythmes colorés, témoins de sa présence aux choses et de sa façon d’habiter ses mondes.Nicolas Gaume, artiste peintre - Mai 2023
